About the retreat

This Retreat will be based on the NKT Fall Festival. In this retreat, we make prayers to Buddha Amitayus for everyone, including our self, to enjoy a long life endowed with good fortune and great wisdom.

About the teacher

Gen Kelsang Ananda is a German Buddhist monk and longtime student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. Since 2003 he is a teacher at the Kadampa Meditation Center Berlin and the national spiritual director of the New Kadampa Tradition for Germany, Romania and Slovenia.

Gen Ananda has many years of experience to teach Buddha’s teachings of Sutra and Tantra, and studies and exercises itself for over twenty years under the guidance of his spiritual teacher Geshe-la. He is known for his good heart, his deep, practical understanding and its accessibility known. We appreciate the opportunity, to get here at our center teachings from this inspiring Buddhist practitioners and teachers.

The programme

The retreat starts on the first day with supper at 6pm followed by the introduction at 8.15pm and finishes on the last day with lunch. There will be several meditation and teaching sessions every day as well as a session with chanted prayers. At break times each participant helps with small jobs and there is also plenty of time to go for walks in the beautiful surroundings of Kailash IRC.

Silence during the retreat

During the retreat, in the mornings, we observe silence until lunchtime. Being in silence allows the mind to settle and find peace. In this way you will be able to concentrate better during meditation and to leave all the stress and busyness that we are normally immersed in behind. In the afternoon and evening retreaters are encouraged to discuss their experience of the meditation and teachings, so they can help each-other to overcome obstacles and gain deeper experience. During some retreats, depending on the wishes of the retreaters the retreat can be completely silent from a certain point in the retreat.

Language & Translation

This course will be held in English and Translated into German, however, when possible we try to help organise more translations, but this may not always be possible. Please contact us if you need translation.

Volunteering

Kailash IRC is a charity and the Retreat Centre is run by a few volunteers. It is also fun to connect with fellow retreaters while helping out with small tasks. For this reason every participant helps with some jobs (e.g. chopping vegetables, washing dishes, tidying up etc). and the final cleaning at the end of the course.
