Wake up to the preciousness of every moment of our lives

Weekend retreat with Gen Kelsang Khandro

This short but effective retreat will be guided by Gen Kelsang Khandro, Resident Teacher of Kadampa Meditation Centre Basel. Each session will include brief commentary and guided meditations, with enough time and silence for everyone to explore the contemplations and meditations on their own. During the breaks, enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding landscape and speak to like-minded people who have come together for this weekend retreat.

Through contemplation and meditation on our own impermanence we will learn to cherish and value each and every moment of our present life and naturally be inspired to use it in a meaningful way.

Please note that each retreater will help with a merit job in order to ensure the smooth running of the retreat. Thank you.

...through meditating on death we shall gradually replace the deceptive thought ‘I shall not die today’ with the non-deceptive thought ‘I may die today.’ The mind that spontaneously thinks each and every day ‘I may die today’ is the realization of death. It is this realization that directly eliminates our laziness of attachment and opens the door to the spiritual path.”
— Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

Can I attend part of the retreat?

Please contact the Centre if you are unable to attend the full retreat.

Why attend a retreat?

In retreat we take the time to step away from the busyness and distractions of daily life, creating the space in which we can take the teachings to heart and cultivate a deep experience of inner peace and further our spiritual practice.

If I'm a complete beginner, can I attend?

This retreat is suitable for everyone and the practices and meditations will all be guided and explained.

What do I need to bring?

You may find it useful to bring comfortable clothes, indoor shoes/slippers, toiletries, notepad and pen, books relevant to the course or retreat, swiss francs (or they accept cards in most shops/public transport), water bottle, plug adapter.

Is the Centre easy to get to?

Despite its remote location, Kailash IRC is very easy to get to by public transport, as well as driving. Please visit the Directions >> page for further details.
